Mark Komen

Owner

TAB Twin Cities North/CentralMINNESOTA

Mark J. Komen, founder and President of Kodyne, Inc., brings a wealth of large corporate and small business experience to his work as a management consultant and business coach. One of his guiding beliefs is that all organizations need effective leadership as the benefits extend to employees, customers, vendors, and anyone with a stake in the business. As such, Mark has worked with managers and executives in numerous industries to help them understand how their leadership drives their organizations.

As a coach, Mark helps business leaders explore how the pieces of their businesses fit together: their work culture, their strategic direction, their plans, their processes and their employee development approaches, to name a few. As a consultant, he works with individuals and teams to improve their personal and organizational effectiveness.

Mark’s unique background allows him to connect with clients at all levels of the organization – from technical professionals to the executive suite to the shop floor. He has over 30 years of engineering design, project leadership, and functional management experience in the electronics and manufacturing industries. He has worked in research and new product development groups, as well as production environments, for Southwestern Bell, the University of Kansas Center for Research, Motorola, Honeywell, Alliant Techsystems and ADC Telecommunications. During the course of his career, he has served in the roles of design engineer, principal investigator, team member, team leader, project manager, department manager and consultant. In addition, he has worked in, led, managed, and consulted with self-directed work teams since 1987 in the electronics, manufacturing and government sectors.

In 2012, Mark completed training to join the pool of evaluators for the Minnesota Quality Award, an affiliate of the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence program sponsored by the US Department of Commerce.  He has also served as a project adviser to the Advanced Professional Degree Consulting Club at the University of Minnesota.

Mark has presented for Michigan Technological University, the University of Minnesota, the College of St. Catherine, the Midwest Electronics Exposition, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, The Printing Industry of Minnesota, the West Hennepin Chamber of Commerce, the Minnesota Public Employee Labor Relations Association, the Council for Independent Professional Consultants and various Minnesota county agency managers/supervisors.

Mark holds Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from the St. Catherine University in St. Paul, MN.

Member Success

TAB helped me to focus on the things that have made my business scalable. I was tempted to divert my attention to another endeavor, but TAB helped me determine that was not prudent. The economy, and specifically new building starts, have helped, but the degree of capitalization would not have been possible were it not for TAB. I compare my situation with another franchise owner who was in my shoes several years ago and I am way ahead, in fact we just bought him out. My revenues have doubled, and my capacity has increased four times from what it was three years ago. I have time to be with my girls, work on my hobbies and enjoy life.

My TAB coach has gotten me on track and kept me on track since 2005 toward the goals I’d originally stated," says Perlmeter. "I’m totally confident that we’ll continue to realize the vision that I have for the company in our second decade.

Our TAB Board members and facilitator have helped us deal with the on-going business issues we have faced over the years as a laser job shop. They have worked with us to plan strategically and helped ensure we are secure during the economic downturns and to capitalize on our strengths and grow in a controlled and targeted way. Our three partners now work together much more effectively as a team making all our working time more pleasurable. I am glad I found TAB.
